What you'll learn in Building Codes — ICC Certification

The International Code Council (ICC) develops the model building codes used across the United States and runs the certification programs that prove you know them. An ICC building-inspector certification tells employers, municipalities, and engineering firms that you can read and apply the code correctly - and it opens the door to bigger projects and inspector roles.

CSLS offers two separate ICC building-inspector certification courses - residential and commercial. Both run as live online instruction and include the current code books, tabbed and ready for the open-book exam. Take either on its own, or earn both and save.

Residential Building Inspector

4 weeks · 2 days a week · 24 hours live online

Prepares you to pass the ICC B-1 Residential Building Inspector exam, covering current residential code standards and the materials, methods, and inspection practices it tests.

Building Codes — ICC Certification - Frequently Asked Questions

They prepare you for two different ICC certifications. The residential course readies you for the ICC-IRC B-1 Residential Building Inspector exam; the commercial course readies you for the ICC-IBC B-2 Commercial Building Inspector exam. You can take either on its own, or bundle both and save.
The residential (B-1) course runs four weeks, two days a week - 24 hours of live online instruction. The commercial (B-2) course runs seven weeks, two days a week - 42 hours of live online instruction. Pick a start date from the schedule above.
