Confirm You Qualify
You must be 18+ (in practice) with a valid SSN or ITIN and at least 4 years of journey-level experience in your trade (gained within the last 10 years). Up to 3 of those years can be substituted with approved education or apprenticeship.

Who Needs a Contractor License?
In California, anyone who contracts to perform construction work where the combined cost of labor and materials is $1,000 or more must hold a license issued by the CSLB. That covers the vast majority of paid construction jobs, from framing and electrical to plumbing, roofing, concrete, and beyond. Experience Requirement
